How can I stop Windows - Drive Not Ready Errors?
I get them whenever I insert a cd, plug in a usb/firewire device, or anything removable. The exact error is: Windows - Drive Not Ready The drive is not ready for use; it's door mat be open. Please check drive and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed Cancel Try Again Continue It will go away if I press cancel about 10 times, but it's very annoying, and pops up randomly. Everyhting works fine, the drive doors are closed. Anyone know how to get rid of 'em? Oh, I hope this is the right section for this. The errors are because of hardware, so it should be fine? If not, oh well >:3 I've tried system restores, I will try to roll back the drivers. You should verify you cables inside the computer. You got a time out error. Verify that everything is well plugged. Do you have a floppy drive ? Verify its declaration in the BIOS. Try to disonnect them, one at a time, until you find the one generating the error message. If it's not a problem of cable (switch cables), consider replacing the deficient part. Did you scan your computer for virus ? That may be a cause too. armirol | Read more Fighting Neighbors - When do you get involved? Last night, my neighbors fought for SEVEN HOURS -- from 8 pm to 3 am -- ALL NIGHT!! They fight like this about once a month, and it usually fizzles out after an hour or two. I've always opted to mind my own business. We are both military families stationed overseas, so I know all about the stress and isolation that comes with being in a foreign country without a lot of friends and support. These neighbors and my family are not good friends, just neighborly acquaintances. On one occasion about a year ago, I politely let them know that we can overhear their fights. I haven't felt comfortable approaching them directly since that one occasion because I don't feel that they will listen, and I also don't know if I would be acting appropriately if I inserted myself into their family drama again. Last night's fight was the worst one yet. They were screaming, slamming doors, and chasing each other up and down the stairs. Normally I can't overhear their words, just the noise of their fights. Last night it was so bad that I could hear the husband repeatedly threatening to call the police and asking the woman what she was doing to herself (maybe cutting or hitting herself??). At one point, their five-year-old daughter woke up and started crying and screaming, and I heard the mother scream this gut-wrenching, wordless scream of rage at the little girl until she went back to bed. No kidding, at one point the wife screamed for FIVE WHOLE MINUTES without saying a word... just screaming over and over til she ran out of breath. I grew up witnessing this same dynamic with my own parents, so I wake up with my heart racing and sometimes even start crying when I can hear them fighting. In those few vulnerable moments before I'm fully awake, it's like being a little kid all over again and hearing my parents fighting. My dad used to threaten to kill himself and my whole family during some of my parents' worst fights. In other words, I know what their kids are going through. I also feel traumatized and powerless all over again. I am concerned that their fights are reaching a new level of insanity and that I might really regret it if I don't intervene in some way. I am worried that they may harm themselves or their children. On the other hand, I am afraid that they will retaliate against me and my children if they blame us for involving the authorities. We still have another year to endure as neighbors, and I don't want to set ourselves up in a situation where they're going to seek retaliation or escalate their violence. I am a VERY non-confrontational person, pretty much to the point of being a door mat, so I've put up with a lot of crap from them over the past two years. Lots of little things, for instance, they throw cigarette butts all over my yard. They position their charcoal grill under my open windows and only seem to want to use the grill when they notice that I've left the windows open and am not at home to shut them. They blast music during my babies' nap time. I've addressed the cigarette butts once. I've asked for their respect about nap time. The issue I haven't addressed is the grill (which seems really paranoid and silly unless you experience it firsthand). Like I said, I've let them know that we can hear them, hoping that maybe they would at least be ashamed enough to keep it down, but it feels like that they're have no regard for us because we haven't been more firm in expecting neighborly respect from them. I really don't know what my rights and obligations are in this situation. I'm lost, exhausted, and very upset. My husband doesn't think we should get involved because we could endanger our credibility if we involve the authorities and this family manages to present themselves as a perfectly ordinary, happy family. He's also concerned that they will seek revenge against us when he isn't home to protect me. At this point, I want to call the Police, Child Protective Services, their landlord, and the husband's boss. I just want to get anyone and everyone involved in defusing this situation because I'm at the end of my rope and can't wake up to this trauma EVER AGAIN!! As for the military angle of this situation: We are both Army families, and my husband and the other husband are both Specialists. They work at the same base but are in different units. Does anyone have any good suggestions for me? Call your MP's . Please. You already waited too long. You and your family have enough stress of your own without dealing with these neighbors. And Family Services needs to get involved for that child's sake. Or go the MP's and file a complaint. You do not want civilians involved. It gets made public, and you will get more help and protection internally, in case this guy cops an attitude. Mary Meyer | Read more Is this a good Car/deal?
